About the HiVE

Vision

We have wild dreams of building a network of knowledge, connection and innovative action in order to take on society’s most complex challenges.

Mission

To support and amplify the social impact sector by providing the social cohesion, human capital, and resources that enable our members and partners to thrive.

What is Social Impact?

A significant, positive change that addresses a pressing social challenge creating public value in the process.

What is Social Innovation?

Social innovation has many definitions, but at its core it supports people and organizations to co-create, learn, adapt and scale more effective solutions to entrenched social problems—making our human and natural systems more adaptive and resilient.

Why Join the HiVE?

Vancouver’s social innovators thrive in the HiVE’s collaborative, co-working community of like-minded individuals.

Our members come from diverse sectors, backgrounds, and places; but they all have a passion to make the world a better place. Our community is made up of non-profits, for-profits, entrepreneurs, creatives, activists, professionals, and techies who are challenging the status quo. Together, we have skills in finance, green building, education, food systems, sustainability, law, design, community development, and everything in between.

Our Staff

Anna Whelan

Anna Whelan

Executive Director

Anna joined the HiVE as our Executive Director in 2021. As a musician, artist, storyteller, and non-profit manager, Anna has dedicated her career to supporting artists and communities and is excited to bring her passion for the social impact sector, community building, and the arts to the HiVE community. When she is not at the HiVE, she is making music, cycling, traveling (when it’s allowed again), dangling in her front porch hammock, hanging out with her nephew, or spending time with cat, Oliver. She excited to be a part of the HiVE community and can’t wait to meet all the members in person.

Vea Coronado

Vea Coronado

Operations Manager

Vea brings in over 10 years of experience in communications, administration, and business operations. She‘s worked with a wide array of industries, both corporate and non-profit sectors including BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society, Arts BC, Simon Fraser University, Proctor and Gamble, and many more. Through Crown and Calling, she provides one-on-one accompaniment to solo-entrepreneurs, executive leaders, and those going through career transition (think practical, value-driven strategy consulting with a heavy emphasis on relational support). Outside of work, Vea loves sewing and is a big advocate of mindful consumerism and slow fashion. She also uses her platform to raise funds and awareness for Truth and Reconciliation, as well as against human trafficking and youth homelessness. Having been a Desk Bee, Vea’s excited to move into this role and contribute more to the day-to-day and strategic movements of the HiVE.
